SMART BOARD TRAINING!
I attended the Smart Board Beginners workshop that was held
at Brock University. This workshop outlined the basic components of the Smart
Board and how to use the One Note software. One Note software is the program
most often used on the Smart Board which allows teachers to create
presentations and interactive activities on the board itself. We learned how to
make presentations, incorporate images, shapes, objects and various fonts. In
addition to learning the basics of the software, we learned about the board
itself and its various components. This will ensure we know how to properly use
the technology in the classroom in conjunction with our laptop. I plan to use
this technology in the classroom as it is a great interactive tool for student
engagement. The One Note software is easily transferable to many subject areas.
I believe it is a great tool for math as it fosters motivation, encouragement
and collaboration which a vital to a math lesson.
I am
extremely happy that I attended this workshop as I will be able to adapt the
strategies I used to my classroom in any subject area. Though the Smart Board
can be used in its simplest form as a whiteboard, I have now learned how to
incorporate many other activities using the software which will be helpful in
all subject areas. The most interesting aspect of the workshop was the
versatility of the software itself. There are preloaded activities that
teachers can incorporate into their lessons or use in accompany with their own
lessons. For example, the smart board software has a interactive frog
dissection the teacher could use as a “hook” to a lesson or use while students
are dissection their own frogs as a guideline. These preloaded activities were
fascinating to me. I cannot wait to utilize this technology in the classroom.
